View Full Version : End of beta event?

Did anyone else take part in the end of beta event last night? I had my level 17 warrior out on PvE11
I spent a good deal of time at the Crossroads, there were large scale PvP battles as alliance troops attempted again and again to attack.
Needless to say the might of the horde defeated them ;) It was a lot of fun though and although I died a fair few times I killed more than I died, which is always nice :) I got ganked a couple of times and was one-shot killed by a level 38 hunter which was a bit sucky but all the bad bits were outweighed by the fun of chaotic battle. I also had some 1vs1 fights for the first time and did pretty well there.
All the cities were also under attack/in flames from monsters. There was a level 500 Massive Infenral inside the entrance to Undercity. Level 110 daemons and level 60 demonlords and various other nasties were at every town I went to.
At one point we were fighting at the Crossroads when everything went to hell as infernals and harpies came lumbering up. The body count of both alliance and horde was extreme.
I did get a bit frustrated with a level 38 gnome mage who was sitting on his mechanical pet not pvp flagged and generally being annoying. You just knew he was waiting for his moment to see a weakened player before attacking and thus flagging himself.
It was a bit like the noto days of UO. He was relying on game mechanics to protect him in a deadly environment. I guess I can live with this kind of behaviour but had it been a PvP server he would have been slaughtered.
Makes me even more commited to the idea of one char on a PvP server and one on the RP server though!.

I was a little bit disappointed, because I missed most of the fun on my server. When I logged in at Crossroads the town was burning and a high level daemon was surrounded by maybe 20-30 players hitting on him. After that one was killed nothing further happened. I traveled to Ogrimmar to see if there is some action, but found only the streets full of dead bodies, so I was there to late too. And this was around 1900 CET :(
Rest of the evening was just duelling at the main entrance to Ogrimmar till they pulled the plug.

Ogrimmar did seem dead in comparison to to Crossroads and Undercity, but judging by the bodies everywhere I'd say I missed whatever happened there too.

I spent my first 1hr in Darkshore killing some orcs, and around 8pm cet we moved to Stormwind were a large group of player were. I'd say we were about 50-60 people there. There we killed a Drealord demon.
Didnt really do anything fancy, just hanging about talking to people. And shooting some fireworks.
Took some screens, but they are in tga format, need to find a program that i can use to convert them with.

On PvP 5 the event was called "Lag of Hell". It was simply unplayable..
The server crashed at 15:00 and all the deamons etc dissapeard after the restart of the server, so i didnt get to see any.

Yesterday i saw so many reasons NOT to choose a PvP server LoL! The end really brought out the finest of the WoW beta players (not)

Heh to each their own I guess :)
Anyway I'll be on the RP/PvE server primarily too as it seems to be what most people want and I am keen to do some alliance stuff as with the exception of a level 5 dwarf I've seen very little of the eastern kingdoms.

Played for two weeks and its amazing how little i have seen of the land so far, saw these maps yestarday and went WOW!
Ive only been in Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Duskwood, Redrigde Mountains, Dun Morogh and Loch Modan!
I liked the areas around Loch Modan very much.

You played for two weeks and did not used sites like:
http://www.thotbott.com or:
http://www.worldofwar.net where you can find these nice maps and more?
With my Orc(24) I completely explored Durotar and The Barrens and was starting to get an idea about the sourounding zones. There is so much to see to explore and to clomp into pieces. :)

More fun to do your own exploring then to take a peek on maps etc :D

For sure, havent used thottbot once actually. I noticed that you can type in the names of the quests and get em pinpointed on the map etc.. Isnt that like cheating?
Using Thottbot i guess leveling your character is no problem... Its a great tool, but its a bit too powerfull methinks, on the other hand there allready "strategy" guides you can buy with the same stuff in them.
Ruins a bit of the fun imho.

One is to find out something about dropped resources I haven't seen before (there simply isn't enough space in the bank to collect everything just in case one might need it once for crafting), the other to play around with the talent calculator.
Else Thottbot isn't really precise. There are better (sic!) sites to study walkthroughs (and undermine your fun) while personally I wouldn't call looking at a map cheating at all. Whereas I have to admit that the map I am using isn't hat detailed. It rather provides an overview including general information on monsters' levels, locations of instances or cities as well as travel routes. Have a look ... http://www.kaldorei.com/worldmap/
Simply nice to get an idea of the distances or who of those in your friendlist is where right now. I use(d) it for tasks like to travel to Westfall, walk west to the coast and then swim southward to aquire a certain item only available in Booty Bay, for instance.
